Mathematics
Mathematics is taught in the form of 3 one and a half hour sessions, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and one forty-five minute session on Fridays. The focus each week is a Number outcome and then an outcome from the other strands that relates as much as possible.
Maths groups are completed with all of stage three mixed together. We have five ability groups, with the lower ability groups having less students where possible. The groups are - Hexagons taught by Mr Morris, Pentagons taught by me, Squares taught by Ms Papworth, Triangles taught by Mrs Walters And Circles taught by Ms Mateer.
Each hour and a half lesson is started with Mastering Maths Facts program to improve students recall of multiplication facts. We then focus on the outcome for an hour and use the remaining time for problem solving and to discuss our learning.
Maths homework is given if students fail to complete work in class or if a weak area requires extra reinforcement.
